DOWERIN FIELD DAYS
August
From Viv Harris
The Dowerin Field Days. They are on in August. I go every year weather permitting and the Shire prepare the strip ready for the influx of planes over the two days. There is a courtesy bus that runs between the airfield and the show grounds.
The Dowerin GWN7 Machinery Field Days is an agricultural expo located in the Central Wheatbelt of Western Australia. The event has continually expanded over the past 54 years to become the largest and most successful event of its kind in the state. With a strong reputation, which is widely recognised throughout Australia, the Dowerin Field Days are classed as being among the three largest agricultural machinery events in the country.

KULIN BUSH RACES
October
From Viv Harris:
Attached is mud map of Jilikan Lake airstrip for the Kulin Bush Races in October. This is a great weekend away with lots of entertainment for all ages. People can go on line and purchase tickets and find out more info. It is a beautiful spot and the approach over the lake on runway 28 is not some thing you do every day.
Kulin Bush Races (KBR) is a quintessential Australian event like no other…. a weekend of “picnic” horse racing, live bands, children’s activities, novelty events and welcoming country hospitality.
Camping is available to visitors from Wednesday before the weekend so tourists arrive early, set up camp and then travel around the region to nearby towns, Wave Rock, Buckley’s Breakaway and the Tin Horse Highway (THH). Back in Kulin there is loads for visitors to see and they’ll find friendly volunteers¸ activities, information and food at the art event on Thursday and Friday, Kulin Motor Museum, the Railway Studio & Gallery, and the local Country Woman’s Association.
KBR provide a ‘town to track & return’ free shuttle bus for people staying in town. Camping is free Friday and Saturday night so locals and visitors bring their caravan, camper, tent or swag. On Friday afternoon souvenirs, food and beverages are available for sale and the entertainment begins with several live music acts and tin horse races.
Saturday morning a Memorial service at the racetrack is held by Vietnam Veterans. Free morning tea follows and the fast paced action starts with the barrel racing. Horse races begin midday and there’s loads of novelty events including the barrel racing finals, novelty sheep races, Perth Highland Band performances, a live tote, two-up, ‘kid’s tent’, bouncy castle, face painting and an interactive farm animal display. Sumo-wrestling, laser tag and a designated under 18 area is available for older children.
Midday the winning large tin horse entered into the annual KBR Tin Horse Competition is announced. All the tin horse entries are installed along the Tin Horse Highway- “Australia’s most unique open-air gallery”. A magnificent fireworks display will mark the beginning of the entertainment line-up for the evening which includes live music acts and a headline act. The Great Aussie Revival Breakfast on Sunday morning completes the weekend.
